The
University of Oklahoma’s History of Science Department and the History of
Science Collections were awarded a $300,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon
Foundation in New York.
The grant,
which will be placed in an OU endowment, will permanently fund travel
fellowship, bringing visiting scholars to the university to use the
intentionally recognized resources.
According
to Steven Livesey, department chair and professor in the History of Science Department,
the endowment will support six fellowships each year. In September 2000, the
Mellon Foundation awarded $49,000 to the department and collections, which over
the past five years has funded 21 fellowships.
