NORMAN, Okla.- The Cleveland County
Workforce Investment Board held a special meeting, Monday, July 25th,
at the Sarkeys Foundation Conference Center to provide an overview of the
Workforce Investment Act and the role and responsibilities of board members.
Greg Newton of Greg Newton Associates facilitated the meeting.
Newton presented recommendations and ideas
on defining board roles in Workforce improvement and responding to Workforce
challenges. He also discussed a vision for the board to aid in strategic
planning development for the future. Newton, a nationally recognized speaker,
has worked with over 420 different businesses, organizations and associations throughout
the country.
“Through
the ‘One-Stop’ system, employers have a single point of contact to provide
information about current and future skills needed by their workers and to list
job openings. The information and ideas developed between Greg Newton and the
board will enhance the ability of local employers to provide the information to
the ‘One-Stop’ Center on the types of skills needed to perform high-demand
jobs,” Board Chair John Sparks said. “Likewise, the issues discussed will
assist the residents of Cleveland County in identifying local career
opportunities and the skills needed to pursue high demand and higher paying
occupations.”
The Cleveland County Workforce Investment Board is part
of “Workforce Oklahoma” a workforce
development system where business leaders, educators and employment
professionals are working together to achieve job growth, employee productivity
and employer satisfaction. The Cleveland County “One-Stop” Center is
located at 1141 E. Main Street.
